Recently Adopted Leica Geosystems 3D Machine Control Across a Number of Their Diggers

Morcom Construction, based in Devon, have recently adopted Leica Geosystems 3D Machine Control across a number of their diggers to aid them with both their commercial and private projects.

Their journey with Leica MC1 all began when Pete, one of their machine operators, with nearly 40 years’ experience in the industry, encouraged the company to focus their growth and movement towards using machine control.

Whilst machine control was installed to improve workflow with their dozers, the system can be calibrated across multiple machines and is now being used with various diggers, dozers and excavators as and when required.

One Point Survey's Support

As Leica machine control becomes a more popular aid not only does it adapt the physical machinery but also changes the role of the operator inside the cab.

After experimenting and getting to know the systems, operators at Morcom Construction have discovered how easy machine control really is.

One Point Survey supported Morcom’s investment by:

  • Supplying Leica Machine Control
  • Providing full install and calibration
  • Providing training on effective use
  • Ongoing support and help

The Benefits

Since moving from manual and adapting their machines with Leica Machine Control, operators at Morcom have noted how much easier, simpler and stress-free projects are.

“It’s easy. An engineer puts a model into it and that’s it… away you go.” Pete - Morcom

Some of the benefits they have noted include:

  • Speed & Productivity - Construction workflow and processes have been sped up by around 50% for Morcom due to less error and site setbacks.
  • Cost Efficient - An increase in productivity inevitably means less fuel burn saving both money and the environment.
  • Mentoring - Experienced operators, such as Pete, are gaining the opportunity to share their knowledge and support, mentor and guide operators that may be new to machine control.
  • User Friendly - New technology can often be daunting, particularly for those not IT savvy. However, Morcom have found the user interface is simple, easy and adaptable.
  • Versatility - Machine control opens up a whole new level of operating. It’s as simple as putting it into the machine and you're ready to go.
